Byron gets POPPED – from this Friday!!!

0C8A9960The wait is almost over Byron: POPPED is about to launch in Surf Alley, Byron Bay. As of this Friday 12 May, celebrated local street artists nitsua, Jeremy Austin, Teazer, Burg, Shmik, and Basix will be transforming the laneway into something spectacular, and in preparation for the big event next week.

You can visit the laneway all week and view the artists’ progress. You might even see some of Feros Care’s residents hanging out with the artists throughout the week as they champion their slogan ‘Grow Bold’, and participating in activities not usually associated with our senior community; street art being one.

All will be revealed on Friday 19 May from 5pm when POPPED finally opens its (green) doors and welcomes locals and visitors alike into the Byron Bay CBD to celebrate art and culture in an entirely new way for Byron nightlife.
The POPPED event will be a full-scale urban laneway activation that will celebrate the new artwork with green walls, live DJs, bespoke furniture, bar, food, and of course the launch of the brand new Fresh Air Gallery, which will incorporate art, performance, and philanthropy, as it raises money for Lismore flood victims.

On Saturday afternoon, Popped becomes an all-ages space at the LIVE IDEAS PROGRAM hosted by Feros Care, where audiences will enjoy robust panel conversations about art, place-making, surf culture, community, and much more.

From mentorships and internships with our new generation through SAE, to working with seniors and long-term residents to embrace the power of the story and community connection, to collaborating with myriad industries including builders, florists, DJs, and transport companies to enhance the patron experience, the project offers an exciting new direction for the arts and events in the region.

“This project is an opportunity for local artists to be celebrated in a public space, and to invite our local community back into the CBD on a Friday and Saturday night where they can enjoy a rich and vibrant cultural experience in a safe, inspiring and sophisticated environment at an accessible price point,” says Operations Manager, Monique Hartman.

“Everyone is welcome to this event, but we really want local residents to see this as an opportunity to reimagine their interaction with Byron Bay’s nightlife. We’re bringing a new edge to the town that allows young and old to celebrate together. We’re really excited to offer this work to the public and to see everyone have a really good time together”.

Tickets to Popped are $10 each, per person per session, and can be purchased via www.poppedcreative.com or at the door.

For an additional $5, ticket holders can purchase a return bus ride, thanks to GO BYRON from outer suburbs Lennox Head, Bangalow, Brunswick Heads & Mullumbimby. Limited seats available.

The full program will be distributed throughout the region via Media partners The Echo on 10 May.
