As part of its massive ten day program this October, Byron Bay Film Festival (BBFF) proudly presents its second Virtual Reality (VR) Workshop Program: NCUBE8.
After a successful, highly popular launch in 2016, NCUBE8 returns in 2017 to educate, inspire, and illuminate creatives with the mind-blowing world of virtual reality and other technologies, and the creative potential of these mediums, as well as how they’ve evolved in the last twelve months.
Last year the workshops attracted over 100 creatives in multiple venues across the Northern Rivers region to widespread acclaim.
Facilitator Luke Bubb is a successful Concept Designer whose work has featured in huge blockbusters including ‘Australia’, ‘Prometheus’, and ‘Jackrabbit’ to name just a few, as well as countless large-production TVCs for some of the biggest names in the corporate world including Hyundai, VISA, Pepsi, and Foxtel.
Over the last 16 months Luke has incorporated Virtual Reality Technology into his creative practice and pipeline – and he’ll be sharing this insight – along with BBFF’s Technical Director Osvaldo Alfaro, whose impressive carer has held passionate focus on film technology, animation, and synthetic image creation.

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY – NCUBE8 Residential Intensive Weekend Retreat
In addition to the public workshops, a unique opportunity to accelerate your understanding and practice in this medium at a two day Residential Intensive is available to three selected artists.
The intensive will be held at the Moving Peaks Studio in Bangalow’s Station St Studios – a Creative Hub for the region which plays host to galleries, artists, designers, publishers and more.
For those selected, accommodation is on offer in a cosy cottage in Bangalow – the pride of Byron Bay’s picturesque hinterland – the perfect hideaway to recharge and imbibe creative inspiration.
The selected artists will learn how to paint, model and output their work, as well as a number of other cutting-edge techniques. Their work will then be available on-line and at the closing weekend of the festival for others to experience.
BBFF is seeking Expressions of Interests from three artists who would like to gain experience in VR that evolves their existing artform. This opportunity will suit all kinds of Artists, Animators and Filmmakers.
