In memory of her inspiring friend Stacy Neild, who passed away in 2013 from Motor Neurone Disease (MND/ALS) , Byron Bay artist Liesel Arden embarked on a challenge 30 portraits in 30 days of 30 inspiring people in the area who have made a significant impact in their chosen fields in order to raise more awareness and funds for people living with the disease. Portrait subjects include Mick Fanning, Taylor Steele, Kerry O’Brien, Marele Day and Andrew Stockdale to name a few.
During this process, Liesel interviewed each of her subjects about some of the challenges they have faced in their lives and careers. These interviews were filmed by Byron Bay videographer and photographer Nolan Verheij-Full. From these interviews and by documenting the creative process of the project Nolan created the Signify Thirty short film to be premiered at the exhibition on the 11th of September.
All proceeds from the evening and from the sale of the works will go towards helping people currently living with MND in Australia through the Motor Neurone Disease Association of NSW.
“It’s been the most incredible journey. Between interviewing and getting to know all of the subjects and the intensely challenging timeframe in which to paint them all, I don’t think I ever could have comprehended how much it would change me, both as an artist and also as a person.
Byron musician Vinnie LaDuce will be entertaining guests whilst award winning “Best Regional Restaurant 2015” Three Blue Ducks will be creating a special menu for the event. Stone and Wood, Batlow Cider and The Wine Tradition will be sponsoring the bar.
