STONE & WOOD START BREWING THEIR BEER FOR THE BYRON BAY SURF FESTIVAL

unspecified unspecified-5Stone & Wood Brewing Company have a surf inspired brew bubbling away in tank to serve up just for the surf loving crowds at the upcoming Byron Bay Surf Festival this February 24 – 26, 2017.

Reflecting the festival’s respect for surf culture, the brew “is an ode to our love of the region and includes native coastal ingredients – local finger limes, Pacific Ocean sea salt and kombu seaweed,” said BBSF Director, Max Tischler.

The festival organisers, along with local surf legends and BBSF guests, Patagonia’s surf ambassadors, Dave Rastovich and Glen Casey, dropped into the Stone & Wood brewery to collaborate on the Pilot Batch brew.

In terms of getting the surf taste right, Stone & Wood brewer Louis Costa said it might take up to three weeks to get right: “The best way to test is just to drink it. You take a sample, divide it up and add more of the ingredients until you get it tasting just right.  You can always add, but you can’t take things out, so we go slowly slowly. It’s a lot like surf board shaping – you put in the love and take your time to try to find the right balance. Then you test it again and you adjust again until it is perfect,” he said.

The beer will be released at the surf festival’s main event – Saturday Slide -presented by Stone & Wood on 25 February at the Beach Hotel.  It will also be available on tap at Stone & Wood’s tasting room over the festival weekend 24th – 26th Feb.

What will it be called? A naming vote will run on BBSF Instagram @ByronBaySurfFestival in the lead up to the festival.
