Paddle Out : Byron Bay – Photo : Jonno Howell –  Buy Print

Yesterday saw 600+ ocean enthusiasts make their way down to Watego’s Beach.

What for? Well in Byron Bay each year on Australia Day, surfer’s gather to have a fun-filled day and paddle across Byron Bay, raising money for local charity. The paddle starts at Watego’s, and finishes up at the Surf Life Saving Club on Main Beach. 2km’s of paddling, as the warm northerly wind made paddling tough, with the odd bluebottle sting. Ouch.

The event started in 2009, and is an incredible community driven event. It’s great to see local families, surfer’s, paddleboarders, you name it, they all got together and united as one.

Common Ground’s new face on the ground Jonno Howell, brought us this series of pics. So if your on Byron Bay next Australia Day, see you at the paddle out! The arms are still hurting today (as well as the beer drinking arm).
