Sunday Safari’s First Birthday!

It’s hard to believe a year has passed since the first instalment of Sunday Safari – with that said, we cordially invite you to join in the celebrations of the party’s first birthday and bring you a line up of great measure that’s hard to beat on Sunday 14th October at the Byron Bay Brewery.

We first introduce to you the UK duo Punks Jump Up formed by Joe Attard and David Anderson. The two have been at the forefront of the European dance music scene for almost a decade now touring the likes of Europe, America, Asia and Australia. Incorporating their signature punk-meets-dance sound, PJU remixes include Digitalism, Miami Horror, Crystal Castles, Kele, Tiga, Miike Snow and more. This year the boys released their EP ‘Get Down (Special CCCrash Mixxx)’ through Kitsuné, with their latest single ‘Mr Overtime’ dropped in April – featuring the golden voice of non-other then Dave1 from Chromeo. Sunday Safari welcomes these special two with open arms.

The second duo for the night are best known for their single ‘We No Speak Americano’ (co-produced with DCUP) which sold over five million copies and hit number one in 18 countries. Also known as Johnson Peterson and Slyvester Martinez, Yolanda Be Cool has over ten years of DJing under their belts. The distinctly tropical flavour to their productions and fiercely educational attitude to sampling (in the case of ‘We No Speak Americano’ crate digging as far back as 1950’s Italia) creates a combination for success. Alongside strong dates in Europe this summer, the pair have been hard at work in the studio, putting the finishing touches on their highly anticipated debut studio album. Their forthcoming single will be dropping before the year is out – stay tuned.

Sunday Safari welcomes back a crowd favourite, Sampology. A legend in himself, his ‘Super Visual AVDJ’ series has earned him an undeniable reputation as one of the leading Audio Visual DJs, playing a number of the world’s greatest music, film and arts festivals including Big Day Out, SXSW, Big Chill Festival, Berlin Music Festival and more. Following his debut ‘Super Sounds’ EP release in 2011, Sampology released his debut album, Doomsday Deluxe in June 2012 coinciding with his ‘Super Visual Apocalypse’ tour. The second single from Doomsday Deluxe ‘Around the Globe’ (featuring Serocee) is released on Friday October 5 as part of his current tour of the same name, which we know will be a knockout.

As part of their ‘World Warriors’ tour across Australia, Velociraptor will be showcasing their new album at this Safari. It has been years between releases for the Brisbane band and they are back with a special edition vinyl and digital release of their game-changing mini LP, World Warriors. As a ‘thank you’ for buying your ticket to The ‘World Warriors’ tour, Velociraptor are giving fans the opportunity to pre-order a digital copy of their new LP (released September 7) for a special price. We anticipate a great performance from the much-loved group this Safari.

Off the strength of their second EP ‘Bright People’ released this year, Oceanics have featured as ‘Artist of the day’ on MSN & AOL in the US, had their video played on MTViggy, and landed sync’s for Quiksilver Pro Series & Fox 8 program ‘SLiDE’. The boys will perform at this Safari as part of their ‘The City’ tour, which is set to bring big hollow guitars and clean, jangling tones to the ears of the uninitiated. The single itself is described as a hook laden and infectious pop gem, upbeat and epic and is more or less about the ‘going ons’ when the band is on the road.

The final act for the SS Birthday Party is best described as a sound somewhere between the Beach Boys and Nirvana. Pirates Alive are a garage-rock band from the Gold Coast that infuse a grungy flavor with their sun-bleached surf style. With plenty of punchy surf-riffs, washy flower-punk lyrics and dirty guitar solos, the three-piece draws on influences such as The Black Lips, Wavves and The Hives. After forming in late 2010, they have been lucky enough to take part in Triple J and Independent Music Project’s ‘100 Songs in 100 Hours.’ The boys have played at festivals such as Brisbane’s 2011 Valley Fiesta, Gold Coast’s BLEACH Surf Festival as well as Gold Coast’s 2012 Big Day Out. Sunday Safari welcomes the fresh-faced trio and hopes you do too.

Support DJs include Jad & The Ladyboy, Stretch Paper Cranes, Mr Clifford , Rhys Bynon , Red Mane, And Oh! and Easy P. Sunday Safari apologises for the cancellation of Nina Las Vegas as first planned and will provide ticket refunds to those affected.
