Park and Ride this New Years

_DSC1312“Linger longer “park and ride, avoid the traffic and enjoy the Byron vibe” as “Park and Ride” comes to Byron Bay for the 12 days of Christmas, 26th December to 6th January 2014.

What Is Park and Ride Byron Bay?

Byron Shire Council is trialing an innovative “park and ride” scheme designed to increase alternatives to car travel and increase car parking capacity of the town during peak tourist periods.

Cheap ($5) all day parking and free shuttle buses will be provided at the Byron Regional Sport and Cultural Complex from 26thDecember 2013 to 6th January 2014, (except on New Year’s Eve when it will be $30.) The site will also welcome visitors with some entertainment and provide tourist information services.

Special Event Parking restrictions in town will limit parking to a maximum of 2 hours per day across those parts of the town centre which are not already subject to timed parking restrictions.

Park and Ride will be the best solution for those who want to enjoy the town centre and beaches without worry.

Byron Park and Ride will provide visitors with a unique service that includes entertainment, visitor information and a fun journey on a ‘Magic Bus’ into town.

Residents and businesses will be provided with permits exempting them from the 2 hour parking limits to minimise any inconveniences to locals.

The trial is the first step in a comprehensive plan to re-imagine Byron, making the town more liveable and reducing the congestion and traffic problems. The expansion of the project envisions the creation of a pedestrian precinct in town and including more alternate transport options into the town like bicycles, rickshaws and other innovations.
