Throughout human history music has been a force to inspire, motivate, protest and encourage change, and Bernard Fanning is doing exactly all of those things with his latest single release “Belly Of The Beast”.
Taking aim at the current political atmosphere and upcoming elections about the Western world, the track deals with the issue of disparity between the actions our ‘leaders’ take on our behalf and the reality of what the populace actually want. Lyrically, it hits close to home with lines such as “splashing three word slogans neither us or them believe” echoing the reality of the past three years of government in this country, along with the statement that “the future is suffocating on an echo of the past” ringing ever so clearly in our ears as this country moves backwards in policy, at a time that progress in fields such as human rights and clean energy are absolutely crucial to our wellbeing as a race.
The timing of this release is intentionally impeccable, with a Federal election to be held in Australia on July 2nd, along with a new president on the way for the most powerful nation in the world, the United States of America. The repercussions of these elections will ripple across oceans and borders, affecting our futures and the futures of our children.
