Sunday Safari presents – The Aston Shuffle, Oliver Tank & Guests

After some much need rest and recovery, Sunday Safari is back for 2014 with a stellar line-up that includes Canberra classics The Aston Shuffle, soundscape genius Oliver Tank, new kid on the block Tyler Touché, as well as New York bred LOUISAHHH!!! And techno Frenchman Maelstrom.

With their sophomore album Photographs dropping this March, The Aston Shuffle are preparing for one of their biggest years yet. The album was written and recorded from numerous places around the globe, enlisting a cast of emerging and established collaborators. Photographs, as the name suggests, is a scrapbook of musical mementos. The first snapshots are the catch-cry ‘Comfortable’ and their current anthem ‘Tear It Down’ with both tracks perfectly exemplifying the music they’ve always strived to make – ambitious, genre-splicing, emotive, and always classy dance music.

As one of the biggest talents to come out of the last few years, Oliver Tank combines real instruments with computers, to create vivid soundscapes that have to be heard to be believed. Outside of winning rave reviews across the globe for his debut EP, Oliver’s whirlwind rise in profile was kicked off by winning FBi‘s Northern Lights competition which saw him flown over to Iceland to perform at Iceland’s Airwaves Festival. He’s supported the likes of Active Child, Youth Lagoon, Bonobo and Lana Del Rey for her Australian tour. 2013 saw Oliver Tank back with his second EP Slow Motion Music which features collaborations with artist friends such as Ta-Ku, Hayden Calnin, as well as long-time friend and music collaborator Fawn Myers. His sophomore EP was released on November 22 in Australia and New Zealand. With sold out headline shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, as well as the much coveted James Blake Splendour in the Grass side show support slot Tank looks set to continue his swift trajectory.

Tyler Touché is a young 17-year-old funkster from Brisbane, who is on a quest to discover the secrets of the French Touch. The disco grooves of yester-year, filled with the nostalgic funk of 80s synth jams, complete with the modern electro of today’s dance floor, makes up the essence of Tyler Touché’s sound. Celebrated on Triple J Unearthered, Tyler Touché has since gone on to release his latest EP Technicolor Symphony which has received a success of attention nationally.

louisahhhRaised in an atmosphere bursting with passion for music, LOUISAHHH!!! (born Louisa Pillot) started singing and playing instruments at an early age before discovering a passion for DJing. Starting at age 17, sneaking into New York City clubs with fake IDs, LOUISAHHH!!! has since honed a style that is hard but deep, tough but tender. After moving to LA, a fateful meeting of French techno wonderkind, Brodinski spiraled into a fast friendship and eventual collaboration for Brodinski’s young label, Bromance Records. With ‘Let the Beat Control Your Body’ and ‘Nobody Rules the Streets’ becoming peak-time anthems, and explosive vocal collaborations in the realms of both deep house and new techno, LOUISAHHH!!! was getting ready to release her own productions into the world. 2013 brought forward LOUISAHHH!!!’s first serious solo EP on Bromance records. Supported by dynamic, emotional, ferocious DJ sets rife with technical finesse, LOUISAHHH!!! maintains that ‘she is thrilled to be alive’, and that her music is an active expression of this.

Fusing together the sounds of classic Detroit techno with elements of modern electro and French sophistication, every one of Maelstrom’s tracks is carefully and expertly crafted. He’s released music on the top labels in the dance industry including Dirty Bird, Sound Pellegrino, and BNR Trax. Performing all over the globe in places such as Germany, the United Kingdom, France, China, Austria, Eastern Europe, Italy, and Switzerland, Maelstrom’s journey to Australia is in conjunction with LOUISAHHH!!! and is sure to set this year’s first Safari off with a bang.

Supporting acts include Sunday Safari resident DJs.
