There’s few amongst us that can resist the contagious sounds of Tijuana Cartel.

I have witnessed as the most jaded foot- tapper or sworn, anti- dancer, have transformed unwittingly  into crazed “rug – cutter” extraordinaire while in the vicinity of these guys doing what they do best. Playing Live !

Hailing from the Gold Coast with a bit of Byron thrown in Tijuana Cartel’s sounds can be described as, Cuban percussion with underlying electronica influences. Juxtapose this against a whole heap of flamenco and slide guitar, brassy trumpet, a hint of bollywood and high energy vocals to boot, the result = not the ringing in your ears after New Orleans Mardi Gras (as one might think) but totally addictive and symbiotic grooves.

Anyway, don’t let me garble.. just check out their tunes below for yourself!

The boys have spent the better part of 2011 touring their proverbials off, so much so that they’ve named their latest album after the M1 – after the arterial road connecting the country that they’ve spent so much of their time hurtling down this year. With any luck, they’ll be naming their next record after their private jet! …

This month the band are getting jiggy with it at a bunch of shows up and down the East Coast. They’ll be right here in Byron at The Great Northern this Saturday to add a bit of evening buz to a hot salty Saturday. Get amongst it and get your tickets here. They are then back on the M1 and heading down to entice fans in Port Macquarie NS, Darlinghurst, NSW, then heading up to Newcastle N.SW, all the way to Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast….  Check the links for dates and venues as well as the Tijuana Cartel, band facebook page to be sure you don’t miss a good thing. These generous guys have slipped us a double pass for the Byron show this Saturday the 12th of November, so LIKE the tour poster on the Common Ground facebook page to be in it to win it…

Be there with bells on !
